Tree removal and drainage rectification works at The Green

29 September 2025

Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) would like to advise residents and precinct stakeholders of upcoming works scheduled in your area as part of essential drainage works to rectify drainage functionality and improve safety.

Most of the drainage rectification works are focussed on the stand of trees to the immediate south of the children’s playground, with an upgraded underground drainage line then connecting to existing drainage infrastructure in the eastern carpark.

Unfortunately, the drainage rectification works necessitate the removal of some trees, as detailed further below. EDQ and Brisbane City Council (BCC) refined the drainage design to minimise tree removal as best as possible.

Works are scheduled to occur from early November to early December 2025.

The project will involve:

  • Removal of 10 trees to facilitate earthworks for drainage improvement (cyan markers).
  • Removal of a further 11 trees at the request of BCC to address maintenance and safety concerns (orange markers).
  • Re-contouring of land in the stand of five trees to the immediate south of the children’s playground (cyan markers).
  • Upgrades to the drainage system.
  • Removal of an additional tree on the western pathway connection near Rockpool for safety (cyan markers).

There are currently eight mature trees that provide coverage to the children’s playground area, through this process, three of these trees will be removed, with five mature trees to remain.

To ensure public safety, exclusion zones will be established and managed by EDQ’s contractor during the tree removal and drainage rectification activities. These operations are planned to occur during school hours to minimise disruption to the community. At this stage, it is not anticipated that the playground or sports fields will be closed during these works, however this will be monitored closely as works progress.

Thank you for your cooperation. EDQ will keep the community informed should there be any further updates.
