Currumbin Eco-Parkland Update April 2026

24 April 2026

Fencing on Piggabeen Rd, Currumbin

The first stage of a new rural fence along Currumbin Eco-Parkland’s Piggabeen Road frontage has been completed. Having now replaced the old, deteriorated fence - work included removing overgrown invasive weeds and multiple camphor laurel trees as part of broader rehabilitation efforts.

Koala Rehabilitation Facility

Now that fencing upgrades have been completed, operations at the Koala Rehabilitation Facility on Piggabeen Road have now commenced. Operated by Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the facility supports koalas in recovery and maintains the extensive eucalypt plantation along Piggabeen Road.

Forest Loop and QPWS Maintenance Shed - Construction Works

EDQ has appointed contractors to begin construction of a new maintenance shed and a 2.6-kilometre walking trail. The shed will serve as the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) operational base for managing Currumbin Eco-Parkland once it opens to the public. This on-site base will enhance maintenance response times, daily land care, and long-term park health.

The walking trail will commence at the future arrival precinct, and loop through regional ecosystems within the site. It will align with existing fire control lines, reinforcing them for firefighting vehicles and improving fire resilience and maintainability.

Construction of these elements is scheduled from May to September 2026, subject to weather conditions.
