Currumbin Eco-Parkland’s Restoration Plan Gains Momentum

28 July 2025

In the first six months of 2025, the Currumbin Eco-Parkland has made significant progress in implementing the Ecological Restoration Plan. Our land management contractors have successfully completed the planned work and follow-up visits for several restoration zones. These efforts have included treatments for smaller, leafy species such as cat’s claw creeper, as well as the poisoning of Camphor laurels.

Activity during the latter half of 2025 will be crucial for addressing larger patches of woody weeds in open areas, such as devil’s fig.

Early treatment of Camphor laurels along Currumbin Creek Road and Piggabeen Road has also commenced with a focus on juvenile trees. Larger specimens located near the roads are being assessed in consultation with our arborist to ensure safe and effective management.

Encouragingly, in areas where treatment has been conducted near existing canopy coverage, new communities of native species are already beginning to establish themselves.

Planned Burn – August 2025

Preparations are underway for a planned burn in the centre of the eco-parkland, which is expected to take place in the coming weeks.

Residents near the Currumbin Eco-Parkland may notice variable message signs (VMS) being installed along Currumbin Creek Road and Piggabeen Road closer to the date of the burn.

As planning progresses, weather conditions are being closely monitored. Once the optimal conditions for the burn, as outlined in the Permit to undertake a planned burn, are met, we will need to act quickly before the window of opportunity closes. This means the exact date of the burn cannot be confirmed far in advance.

Both the VMS boards and this Have Your Say page will be updated as soon as a date is set
