BMD Construction Update - Street Renewal Program - July 2026
25 June 2026
Construction update
Welcome to the July 2026 Construction Update of the Northshore Hamilton Street Renewal Program (SRP). BMD is constructing the SRP and will prepare the western end of the precinct (adjacent to Portside Wharf) for six new development lots planned for mixed-use residential development in accordance with the Northshore Hamilton PDA Development Scheme.
BMD is continuing with the delivery of the Northshore Street Renewal Program with works progressing across multiple stages throughout July.
Map of Stage 1 and Stage 2 Work Zones
Works will continue across the Stage 1 and Stage 2 work zones throughout July, including drainage works, earthworks, and preloading of the new road alignments. Demolition of the wharf within the Stage 1 work zone will also progress during this period.
Construction activities across the precinct
Other intermittent construction activities will be undertaken near the Stage 1 and Stage 2 work zones. Detours and changed traffic conditions will be required to safely carry out these works. Please follow the directions on signage and from traffic controllers.
Future work
Upcoming Wharf Street gas line works
Gas line relocation works are scheduled to take place in early August. These activities are being carefully planned to minimise disruption wherever possible. To safely carry out these activities, a work zone will be established, which will include two sections of Wharf Street road reserve.
The relocation works are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete. Additional information will be provided in the August Construction Update
MacArthur Avenue upgrade
Preparation work is underway for the upgrade of MacArthur Avenue, which will involve a closure of MacArthur Avenue between Wharf Street and Bincote Street later this year.
A temporary riverside lane is being constructed between Wharf Street and Bincote Street for local east-west traffic movement during the period MacArthur Avenue will be closed.
More information will be provided regarding the closure of MacArthur Avenue between Wharf Street and Bincote Street in future construction updates and at community information drop-in sessions once planning for this work is finalised.
Work impacts
Throughout construction, we will provide notifications of upcoming work. Measures will be in place to monitor our activities and adjust our controls as needed to minimise impact on the community.
- Noise, dust and vibration: These works will generate noise, dust and vibration.
- Increased activity: Expect more workers and construction vehicle movements around the precinct. Equipment may include excavators, vac trucks, profilers, haulage vehicles, hand tools, concrete saws, generators, concrete trucks and pumps, water trucks and misting cannons.
- Other construction activities to support the delivery of the SRP will be undertaken throughout the Northshore Hamilton precinct outside of the Stage 1 and 2 Work Zones, including moving materials and equipment between work zones, surveying and installing underground services and environmental monitoring.
- Utilities: Some activities may temporarily impact utility services. Written notice will be provided at least seven (7) days in advance when disruptions are expected.
- Hazardous materials: Any hazardous material removal, including asbestos, will be managed safely by qualified personnel.
- Tree and vegetation removal: Some removal may be required within or near work zones to support safe construction of the SRP.
