BMD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE - Street Renewal Program - March 2026
20 February 2026
Construction Activities: March 2026
Welcome to the March 2026 Construction Update of the Northshore Hamilton Street Renewal Program (SRP). The SRP is being constructed by BMD and will prepare the western end of the precinct (adjacent to Portside Wharf) for six new development lots planned for mixed-use residential development in accordance with the Northshore Hamilton PDA Development Scheme.
The image below shows the six new development lots, road layout and the future riverfront parkland area. EDQ will keep the community informed when planning for the new riverfront parkland begins and will seek feedback.
MacArthur Avenue westbound lane closure
The westbound lane on MacArthur Avenue, between Theodore Street and Cedar Road, will be temporarily closed between 6.30am and 6.00pm on the following dates:
- Monday 2 March to Wednesday 4 March
- Wednesday 11 March to Thursday 12 March
The closure is required to safely carry out construction activities. These dates are subject to weather and site conditions. More information is available in the 12 February 2026 Construction Update.
Map of Work Zones
Construction of Stage 1 and Stage 2 Work Zones, shown on the map above, will continue throughout 2026.
Stage 1 Work Zone
Activities in Stage 1 include:
- Delivery and removal of plant, materials and equipment
- Dock A carpark demolition
- Earthworks and preloading on the future roads
- Service installations
- Wharf demolition
- Surveying
Stage 2 Work Zone
Earthworks continue in Stage 2 and the preloading of material on the future roads between development lots commences. Preloading is a construction method used to accelerate compaction and improve soil stability, preventing future settlement before laying asphalt.
Other work in Stage 2 includes the processing and recycling of materials, delivery and removal of plant and equipment and demolition works for future allotments.
MacArthur Avenue upgrade (between Finnegan Street and Theodore Street)
From mid‑2026, upgrade works on MacArthur Avenue between Finnegan Street and Theodore Street will commence. These works will require closing the western section of MacArthur Avenue. A temporary road will be created to maintain direct local access for eastern residents and tenancies. More information on the future closure will be provided in future updates.
Wharf Street Temporary Park
Following community feedback, work is underway at the Wharf Street Temporary Park to create a separate dog area and playground. Closure of the playground area is expected to remain in place until Wednesday, 25 February 2026, weather and site conditions permitting. A new gate will be installed in the dog area in the coming weeks; however, a further closure of the park is not expected.
Wharf Work Zone
Demolition of the existing wharf, parallel to the Brisbane River and Stage 1 Work Zone continue. This work is being undertaken in line with environmental monitoring to ensure the safe removal of timber and materials, including piers, from the river. Increased activity, including overwater works, is expected in March.
Activities across all work zones
Other intermittent activities within and near the work zones include moving materials and equipment between work zones, surveying and service locations and environmental monitoring.
Work impacts
Throughout construction, we will provide notifications of upcoming work. Measures will be in place to monitor our activities and adjust our controls as needed to minimise impact on the community.
- Traffic changes: Detours and changed conditions may be required near work zones. Please follow signage and traffic controllers.
- Noise, dust and vibration: These works will generate noise, dust and vibration.
- Increased activity: Expect more workers and construction vehicle movements around the precinct. Equipment may include excavators, vac trucks, profilers, haulage vehicles, hand tools, concrete saws, generators, concrete trucks and pumps, water trucks and misting cannons.
- Utilities: Some activities may temporarily impact utility services. Written notice will be provided at least seven (7) days in advance when disruptions are expected.
- Hazardous materials: Any hazardous material removal, including asbestos, will be managed safely by qualified personnel.
- Tree and vegetation removal: Some removal may be required within or near work zones to support safe construction of the SRP.
